Senior Lindsey Green, this year’s Waights G. Henry Jr. Leadership Award winner, constantly deals with numbers in her studies and competitions, but she finds the most joy in the immeasurable moments—like being a friend to one of her exceptional needs buddies or mentoring the students she serves as a Peer Consultant at the Writing Center.
“To make an impact on just one person brings me fulfillment,” she said.
The annual student award, which gives Green the honor of speaking at the May 4 commencement, is based on excellence in scholarship, service and leadership.
“Service and leadership are not something someone identifies as a reason for pursuing such opportunities,” she said. “The desire for leadership and service is birthed out of the desire and sense of responsibility to enhance and maintain a cause that gives you passion.”
A double major in Accountancy and Marketing and Entrepreneurship, Green is president of Campus Circles and former president of the Panhellenic Executive Council.
“She brought back the Campus Circles organization, focusing on connecting individuals with exceptional needs to the campus community through mentorship, service and sustainable relationships,” said Dr. Kerry Kenner, Associate Vice President for Student Experience and Dean of Students. “She worked with her peers in Servant Scholars to create this student organization, which has had an excellent response from the campus and local communities.
“Lindsey has had a tremendous impact on students not only in her sphere of influence, but in many facets of the LaGrange College community.”
A lasting impression
The programs most impactful for Green have been Servant Scholars, the Panhellenic Executive Council and Student Ambassadors.
“For two years, I served as a member of the Panhellenic Executive Council, and my favorite part of that experience was watching women find their forever home in a new sisterhood,” she said. “Volunteering with Success By 6, Maidee Smith Early Learning Center, Campus Circles and Our Daily Bread in the Wilkinson Family Servant Scholars Program has been integral to my growth as it has allowed me to pour into the community that has poured into me.
“As a Student Ambassador, I enjoyed helping people find the beauty of LaGrange College because I remember how important my tour was in my decision to come to LC, and I hope I have helped someone else in that choice.”
Another campus role Green took pride in was orientation leader. In that position, she directed her peers and assisted incoming students and parents.
“Lindsey has a quiet leadership style with a quick wit and skill at dealing with changes as they arise,” Dr. Kenner said. “This year, she took the role of Lead Orientation Leader, responding to student/parent issues or concerns and giving presentations for several sessions. Many participants have commented on how her love for LaGrange College is apparent and her passion/experiences were something incoming students hoped to achieve.”
Setting a high standard
Outside of her campus commitments, she also served as an integral part of the Panther Softball and Cross Country teams.
“Her work ethic is exemplified every day by her showing up and giving it her all,” said Cross Country Head Coach Jasen Jonus. “From her first year until now she has grown so much. She is a great leader for us, and her hard work in the classroom has been an example to our team.”
Her dedication to excellence applies not only to athletics but also academics.
Green, who maintains a 3.9 GPA, has received several accolades, including the Hines Undergraduate Research Award and the Educational Foundation of Georgia Society of CPAs Academic Excellence Award in 2023 and the Zachary Taylor Jr. Outstanding Business Student award in 2024. She has also presented at various conferences throughout her time at the college.
Perhaps the most personal achievement for Green will come at commencement when she becomes the first in her family to earn a college degree.
“Being able to share this moment with my family will make the occasion all the more special,” she said.
After graduation, Green will begin working as an accountant at the Joanie Lowe LLC firm in Bremen, Georgia, while also studying for her Certified Public Accountant license.
What she will take away from her time at the college are the people who made the Hill feel like a home.
“The friends I met at LaGrange have had a big impact on my growth into a young adult,” she said. “I met so many people who encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone and become who I am today. I am grateful for my experiences at LC, where it is truly a family.”
Alumni in the Marietta area are encouraged to join President Baxter for an evening of college-centered conversations on Tuesday, April 30, at 5:30 p.m., at Glover Park Brewery.

Baseball
The Panthers played Piedmont University in a three-game series April 19-20. The team lost 0-11 in the first game, won 11-9 in the second game and lost 5-8 in the final game. LaGrange will host Maryville College in its final home regular season series. Game one will be on Friday, April 26, (tonight), at 7 p.m., game two will be on Saturday, April 27, at 2 p.m. and game three will be on Sunday, April 28, at 2 p.m. The seniors will be recognized before the start of Sunday’s game.
Softball
LC wrapped up its regular season with a 6-3 win and 13-1 win over Wesleyan College on Friday, April 19. The team will compete in the CCS Softball Championship May 1-4.
Lacrosse
The Panthers lost 17-12 to Southern Virginia University on Saturday, April 20. The team will celebrate senior day with their final regular season game against Brevard College on Saturday, April 27 (tomorrow), at 1 p.m.
Men’s Tennis
LC played in an exhibition game last week against Point University in preparation for the CCS Championship Tournament. The team lost 5-0 to Belhaven in round one of the tournament on Thursday, April 25, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Sophomore Michael Strydom was named to the CCS All Sportsmanship Team.
Women’s Tennis
The Panthers lost their final regular season match to Agnes Scott on Saturday, April 20. The team competed in an exhibition this past Monday against Point to close out the season. They did not qualify for the CCS Championship Tournament.
Senior Journey Oden was named to the CCS All Sportsmanship Team.
Golf
LaGrange will take on the CCS Golf Championship April 28-May 1 at the Dalton (Georgia) Country Club.

Graduating senior Lindsey Green will receive the Waights G. Henry Jr. Leadership Award at the 2024 commencement exercises on Saturday, May 4, at Callaway Stadium. The award is given annually to a student and is based on excellence in scholarship, service and leadership.
